We’ll delight our taste eating a Naples delicacy: Babà in one of the most famous pastry shops of the city: Al Capriccio, Tizzano, Vincenzo Bellavia, Mary, Scaturchio, Carraturo. In the evening you can not miss the classic Neapolitan pizza in one of the famous Neapolitan pizzerias at Sorbillo, where the traditional way of making pizza is kept alive. You may know that pizza was created right here, within the urban edges of Naples, and the actual denomination of pizza is known only since the XIX century, although the origins of the famous dish are very old. Gay life in Naples gathers especially around Piazza Bellini, where local young gays and lesbians love to spend their nights in one or more of the several gay clubs here. Among these, two of the most famous are the FREEiD in Vico San Geronimo and the Ghetto Crime Bar, in Via Giuseppe Ferrigni.
Day 03 - Pompeii and Paestum
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Pompeii.
Pompeii, the city destroyed by the uncontrollable power of nature, will unveil how the ancient times were open-minded about sexual orientation. In the suburban thermal baths watch sixteen scenes of gay sex between two men, two women and a threesome, as Catullus wrote in the Carmen 56. Usually in these threesomes a woman got laid with two men, in this case one of the men has sex with the other man. Transfer to Paestum in the afternoon. We find here a famous gay painting inside the Tomb of the Diver, the only example of Greek painting with figurative scenes, coming from the Classic, Archaic and Hellenistic period, which has survived in its entirety. Among the thousands of Greek tombs known at that time (700-400 BC) this is the only one that was decorated with frescoes of human subject. The scenes on the walls represent a total of ten men who entertain a banquet, lying on a klinai: one playing the lyre, one plays the flute, one plays the còttabo (trying to hit the target with the sip of the wine in his cup), two in particular linger in attitudes of homosexual affection, a typical Greek habit: it is the ratio of pederasty, where one of the two men is in adulthood and the other one is a teenager, in a relationship pupil-teacher. Return to Naples. * Lunch at the restaurant Add’u Mimi’ Pompeii ‘with typical 0km menu, based on meat and fish dishes and on N extensive wine cellar. In the afternoon move to Paestum.

After the war, Capri became a ‘buen retiro’ for homosexual aristocrats and factory captains who wanted to take the distance from the hipocrisy of their homeland, esthetes, intellectuals in love with the Greek style of Capri. The island got rich of beautiful villas, behind their curtains the ‘extreme’ evolved, starting from Villa Lysis, with its golden reliefs like the ones Klimt used to paint. People went to Capri as it were a mystic India, forgetting their cloths in the closet and dressing in a lavish way. Elderly people used to live with young guys, following socratic love stories and put aside moral obsessions. Overnight in Capri.

During one of his trips to Taormina, he attended photography courses, with excellent results. This passion made a rich and famous man of him. Nearly 50 years of history of Taormina focus on the life of this artist: with his naked youngsters with laurel wreath, Gloeden has become famous for his eccentricity. For example, he loved to swim in her house with sea water, and every day, a bunch of naked boys filled his bathtub with salty water, carrying barrels on the shoulder from the beach (hence the painting “The guys Von Gloeden” ). Taormina was a sexual destination for famous writers, painters and personalities of international politics and economy. Amonst them, Oscar Wilde, the great actress Eleonora Duse and her companion Gabriele D’Annunzio. Taormina is also renowned for its beautiful beaches and its coast.
