Itinerary

Arrival at airport of Rome Fiumicino and transfer to Termini railway station. High-speed train to Naples. Arrival at Napes station, assistance by a member from our staff and private transfer to the 4-star Hotel.

Time off.

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, visit of the Archaeological Museum, where you’ll see the amazing collection of frescoes and statues that were excavated in Pompeii and other nearby sites. The Museum also has some fabulous homoerotic pieces, including the statue of Harmodios and Aristogeiton, the male-male couple who were revered as the founders of the Athenian democracy; visit the fascinating Gabinetto Segreto, the collection of erotic art that until 1960s was open only to “people of mature age and respectable morals.” Then, visit San Giovanni Maggiore, a church built on the rests of an ancient pagan temple probably commissioned by Emperor Hadrianus in honor of his beloved Antinoo; Santa Maria del Carmine Church, where Corradino from Swabia and his cousin Frederick were buried (they were probably homosexual). We’ll delight our taste eating a Naples delicacy: Babà in one of the most famous pastry shops of the city: Al Capriccio, Tizzano, Vincenzo Bellavia, Mary, Scaturchio, Carraturo. In the evening you can not miss the classic Neapolitan pizza in one of the famous Neapolitan pizzerias at Sorbillo, where the traditional way of making pizza is kept alive. You may know that pizza was created right here, within the urban edges of Naples, and the actual denomination of pizza is known only since the XIX century, although the origins of the famous dish are very old. Gay life in Naples gathers especially around Piazza Bellini, where local young gays and lesbians love to spend their nights in one or more of the several gay clubs here. Among these, two of the most famous are the FREEiD in Vico San Geronimo and the Ghetto Crime Bar, in Via Giuseppe Ferrigni.

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Pompeii.

Pompeii, the city destroyed by the uncontrollable power of nature, will unveil how the ancient times were open-minded about sexual orientation. In the suburban thermal baths watch sixteen scenes of gay sex between two men, two women and a threesome, as Catullus wrote in the Carmen 56. Usually in these threesomes a woman got laid with two men, in this case one of the men has sex with the other man. Transfer to Paestum in the afternoon. We find here a famous gay painting inside the Tomb of the Diver, the only example of Greek painting with figurative scenes, coming from the Classic, Archaic and Hellenistic period, which has survived in its entirety. Among the thousands of Greek tombs known at that time (700-400 BC) this is the only one that was decorated with frescoes of human subject. The scenes on the walls represent a total of ten men who entertain a banquet, lying on a klinai: one playing the lyre, one plays the flute, one plays the còttabo (trying to hit the target with the sip of the wine in his cup), two in particular linger in attitudes of homosexual affection, a typical Greek habit: it is the ratio of pederasty, where one of the two men is in adulthood and the other one is a teenager, in a relationship pupil-teacher. Return to Naples. * Lunch at the restaurant Add’u Mimi’ Pompeii ‘with typical 0km menu, based on meat and fish dishes and on N extensive wine cellar. In the afternoon move to Paestum.

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer by hydrofoil to Sorrento…Daily tour in this nice village on the Amalfi Coast, with its typical narrow alleys rich in artisanal shops, tasty flavors and beautiful views on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Time to buy some of the products of the area and taste the sweetness of the Limoncello, the famous liquor made with the lemons of this area, appreciated all around the country. Return to Naples.

Breakfast at the hotel. From Naples via hydrofoil we are going to reach the nice island of Capri, the favorite destination of Emperor Tiberio, bisexual, known for his parties and where the famous and tragic homosexual scandal regarding Alfred Krupp, owner of the steelworks, occurred. Discover the top of the homosexual life of Capri of the last decades of the XIX century and the World War II. After the war, Capri became a ‘buen retiro’ for homosexual aristocrats and factory captains who wanted to take the distance from the hipocrisy of their homeland, esthetes, intellectuals in love with the Greek style of Capri. The island got rich of beautiful villas, behind their curtains the ‘extreme’ evolved, starting from Villa Lysis, with its golden reliefs like the ones Klimt used to paint. People went to Capri as it were a mystic India, forgetting their cloths in the closet and dressing in a lavish way. Elderly people used to live with young guys, following socratic love stories and put aside moral obsessions. Overnight in Capri.

Today is gonna be a relaxing day entirely dedicated to sea and beach. Let’s discover the healthy power of the sea on our skin, take a visit to various spots on the island or stay lazy on the beach relishing the warming sun. Visit the famous faraglioni, typical rock formation that come out from the sea as pinnacles, and delight your senses of taste wth excellent fish in one of the several restaurants or fish shops. Overnight in Capri.

Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer by car to Naples airport. Flight to Catania. In the afternoon arrival at Catania airport, meet and greet with your driver and transfer to Taormina. We suggest a relaxing walk to the center of Taormina. Dinner in a gay friendly restaurant with typical Sicilian products. Overnight in Taormina.

Meet our guide to discover Taormina, on the footsteps of Wilhelm von Gloeden, German photographer with a passion for painting. During one of his trips to Taormina, he attended photography courses, with excellent results. This passion made a rich and famous man of him. Nearly 50 years of history of Taormina focus on the life of this artist: with his naked youngsters with laurel wreath, Gloeden has become famous for his eccentricity. For example, he loved to swim in her house with sea water, and every day, a bunch of naked boys filled his bathtub with salty water, carrying barrels on the shoulder from the beach (hence the painting “The guys Von Gloeden” ). Taormina was a sexual destination for famous writers, painters and personalities of international politics and economy. Amonst them, Oscar Wilde, the great actress Eleonora Duse and her companion Gabriele D’Annunzio. Taormina is also renowned for its beautiful beaches and its coast. Relax on the wide golden beaches, clear waters or even in secluded romantic coves, enjoying the scents and colors of Sicily. Romance and charm will accompany your stay in the picturesque bay of Taormina. Overnight in Taormina * Lunch at the Restaurant Al Saraceno, where you can taste the typical Mediterranean food with a breathtaking view.

Boat trip to discover the beauties of the sea: the Bay of Naxos, the Cave of Love, Capo Taormina, Sirens Bay, Isola Bella, Blue Grotto, Mazzarò, St. Nicholas Bay. During the tour, take your time to enjoy a refreshing swim in front of the beauties of Taormina. The beaches of this beautiful city are amongst the most beautiful of Sicily: pebble beaches and a rich and colorful vegetation, make this landscape, a real treasure for the Mediterranean. In Giardini Naxos admire the changing colors from golden sand to the silver grey pebbles. Return in the evening and dinner on board. Overnight in Taormina.

Reach the Baroque town of Catania. Meet our guide and explore the city, starting from Piazza Frederick of Swabia, then the Ursino Castle, the ancient Norman Castle of the city, the Roman baths, the fish market, Duomo Square, with its many buildings and symbols of Catania, such as the Elephant Fountain. In the afternoon we will reach the highest volcano in Europe: Etna. Admire fascinating volcanic phenomena, walking through woods, eccentric craters and singular Etna lava formations. You will visit a winery and its vineyards, where there will be a tasting of 4 Etna wines, combined with a tasty brunch made from fresh local products of Sicily (cheeses, meats, legumes, oil products and fresh bread). Return in the evening in Taormina. Overnight in Taormina.

In the morning, transfer to the airport of Catania and flight to Rome.

My husband and I booked the tour of the “Vatican in a gay light” for one morning during our trip to Rome. Our guide, Dario, was very knowledgeable of the historical significe of the art works as well as many of the anecdotes that provided context. We learned a great deal and truly enjoyed ourselves. This tour is too notch! Thank you.

Excellent pre-cruise Quiiky tour in Venice. Great guide who had so much intimate knowledge of Venice. Besides being very handsome he is a local resident for more than 2 decades with so much intimate knowledge that you can’t get from a guidebook. This is my second time using Quiiky for tours and transfers; they’re my first choice in Italy!

First I would like to thank you and your company and all involved for a wonderful trip. From beginning to end we continued to be amazed by all the wonder service we received from all of you. We had a fabulous time for our anniversary. All the guides were great and all better than we expected. It is hard to pick a best as they were all awesome, that being said, three stand out for being most personable and had a excellent sense of how to move us along our tours. Quiiky gets 5 out of 5 for all other ratings. Yes, we would positively reccommend for anyone considering travel to Italy. AND, Giovanna, you’re the best.

We adored our Quikky tour of the Vatican with our guide Claudio. We had been a little apprehensive about visiting the Vatican but this tour is the way to go! Claudio had an expert knowledge of the art collection and we enjoyed hearing the "other", more scandalous stories of the private lives of Michelangelo and the popes. We loved our visit to the museums, Sistine Chapel, grotto and St Peters - I recommend joining the queue and adding on the view from the dome of the basilica - well worth the stairs!

Thanks for a great alternative tour of the Vatican. Having visited back in 1999 I wanted something a little different to do with my husband who had never visited before. It is great to see Quiiky offering tours with a twist and can most definitely recommend this one for your next visit to Rome.

First had a wonderful pre-cruise Quikky tour in Venice. Our guide was super friendly, knowledgeable, and a great deal of fun. Then I went on a tour of the Vatican and our tour guide was incredible. He is an expert on the Vatican and on the pertinent gay history (which turns out to be much more than you might even think). He literally made the Vatican come alive and provided one of the more fascinating tours I have taken anywhere. And the two wonderful owners of Quiiky picked us up and took us on a vehicular tour of Rome. Others got back from Rome complaining of the crowds and the heat... we got back energized, happy, and filled with fascinating information after an afternoon filled with fun and personalized care. Don't make the mistake thinking you will get an equivalent tour from a straight guide/company -- if you are gay, Quiiky is the way to go.
